Interview with Felipe Frazão (Brazil)

TC 1: Can you introduce the band to us?

Harmonize: We are Harmonize, a heavy metal band from Cyprus formed in 2012. Giorgos Constantinou, is the band’s founder and base guitarist. Lambros Apousianas is the solo guitarist and Panagiotis Takkides the bass. Harrys Peratikas is the drummer for the band and Sozos Michael our vocalist.

TC -2 : What would you like to say about the composition work on Warrior in The Night?

Harmonize: Warrior in the Night is our first album to come out on October 2nd. It is based on the story we are developing and features one of many characters. We believe that composition can be intriguing to listeners, as each song has its own style, which makes each track special, but collectively expresses our personal style as a band. We are usually influenced by many different bands that we admire and relate to, and inevitably we use those influences to inspire us when we create our music.

TC-3: What is the lyrical theme of this album?

Harmonize: As mentioned earlier, our album is based on an epic fantasy story that we are writing. The struggle between good and evil is one of the many themes that can be conveyed through letters. As this is an album that features a warrior, expect themes about battles and fights, about kings and queens, demons and angels, fall and rise and many other conflicting ideas that complement each other.

TC-4: Why does the band have that name?

Harmonize: These conflicting dynamics we mentioned, which we find fascinating thematically, when in balance they bring a harmony that every soul that wanders in this earth seeks. There is no peace without war, there is no day without night, there is no darkness without light and there is no harmony without destruction. It is, we believe, a very inspiring concept that we intend to develop further and that describes our vision as a whole.https://www.youtube.com/embed/sFIBrREvz8Y?version=3&rel=1&showsearch=0&showinfo=1&iv_load_policy=1&fs=1&hl=pt-br&autohide=2&wmode=transparent

TC- 5 : How did the invitation for Andreas Paraschos come about?

Harmonize: The track Tonight on our album, is the one that conveys the brutality and cruelty of an uncontrollable and voracious creature that is sent to attack, in a very graphic way the enemy. We wanted to collaborate with someone who really knows how to bring out the necessary emotions and who knows how to handle the growls and the extreme metal scene. That person could not be anyone other than Andreas Paraschos from the band Blynd, whose amazing vocals and stage performance are remarkable. As soon as we got in touch with him, he was very willing to record the chorus backing vocals with us and we are very grateful for his contribution on our album.

TC- 6 : What is the idea behind the album cover?

Harmonize: The album cover depicts a warrior. It is a figure seen on many metal covers and many metal songs. However, we wanted to give him his own story. The nameless, faceless warrior we hear about, the one we metalheads want to be, has a story like each of us. Therefore, it was important to display it in an epic way. Having seen Giannis Nakos’ impressive portfolio, we knew we wanted him to be the artist on our album. It beautifully captures the right atmosphere for our story and vividly portrays some more of our characters, found in the CD booklet on our album.

TC-7: Does it bother you that someone calls the power metal band?

Harmonize: It doesn’t bother us at all. As we mentioned, we like to play several different styles, as long as it has the desired effect. Power metal is one of the genres we are strongly influenced by, as our album involves the story of a warrior, the atmosphere of the battlefield and an epic tale. We are not trying to label our music as just power metal, as we like to challenge ourselves with different genres. We are five different minds, with different origins and influences, so it is inevitable that we bring our own identity into the band and create something that ideally, as I can say Harmonize.

TC-8: Can you describe the metal scene in Cyprus?

Harmonize: Cyprus, although small in size, has a very committed metal community. It can be diverse in genres and there is a market for just about anything, no matter how small or big, underground or mainstream. A Cypriot metalhead can be between 15 and 70 years old. While we are sure that elitism and sexism can be present at times as in many communities, we would like to hope that it has not been a major or recurring problem on our island. The Cypriot metal community has expressed a strong sense of family and has made many young metal fans feel welcome and it has been our experience that within the metal community we form eternal friendships and create unforgettable memories. It is always moving to meet another metalhead on such a small island. It is important, however, remember that the metal community is also an industry and there’s a lot more to it than just a love of metal. While there are few opportunities in Cyprus, there are many incredibly talented bands, some with more followers than others. Even though Cypriot metalheads do not always have the opportunity to witness big names live in their countries, certain organizations guarantee to bring international bands and favorite artists to Cyprus. It is notable that many local bands have performed among bands like Arch Enemy, Iced Earth, Children of Bodom, Sepultura, Kreator, Mayhem, Moonspell and many more in Cyprus. some with more followers than others. Even though Cypriot metalheads do not always have the opportunity to witness big names live in their countries, certain organizations guarantee to bring international bands and favorite artists to Cyprus. It is notable that many local bands have performed among bands such as Arch Enemy, Iced Earth, Children of Bodom, Sepultura, Kreator, Mayhem, Moonspell and many more in Cyprus. some with more followers than others. Even though Cypriot metalheads do not always have the opportunity to witness big names live in their countries, certain organizations guarantee to bring international bands and favorite artists to Cyprus. It is notable that many local bands have performed among bands such as Arch Enemy, Iced Earth, Children of Bodom, Sepultura, Kreator, Mayhem, Moonspell and many more in Cyprus.https://www.youtube.com/embed/tR6xmgxuKfQ?version=3&rel=1&showsearch=0&showinfo=1&iv_load_policy=1&fs=1&hl=pt-br&autohide=2&wmode=transparent

TC-9: Why did you choose to include an acoustic version of Angel?

Harmonize: The acoustic version of Angel is the bonus track on our album. It was important to include an acoustic version of this song, as they provide a different feeling or experience, although they have the same meaning. Angel is all about pain and, finally, liberation and salvation. Angel Acoustic is a calming song with a comforting memory. We were also free to include a variation of vocals that seemed appropriate and we were able to express the powerful feeling of the music with the use of guitars and disconnected vocals.

TC-10: Is your Warrior in the Night a concept album?

Harmonize: In fact, our album is very conceptual and based on our own original story. Guitarist Giorgos in collaboration with Nicolina Papas is developing a story that has become the main source of our music. If people want to learn more about our main concept, they can follow us on social media. Visit our website http://3.65.2.98 , where we developed the concept. Beyond Darkness is a story told on our album, where we introduce certain elements of our story.

TC-11: Guys, the interview is over. What would you like to say to the fans?

Harmonize: We would like to thank everyone who supports us and we welcome everyone who is part of this journey with us. Our next album will be released on October 2nd on all digital platforms and on CD. We are very excited to share our work with the world and invite people to listen to the album while we wait for their answers about our music and history. We believe that everyone can win something with this project, so write down the date and listen to us. Thank you very much for having us.
